The project involved the design and installation of a steel side extension for one of the main Halal food suppliers for the NHS.
The extension was to be built onto the existing unit which was situated in an industrial estate in South Shields. We worked closely with the client to design a bespoke side extension which would operate as a storage area for ingredients before they were moved into the existing manufacturing space.
One of the key considerations was the busy staff canteen in the existing building, which overlooked the proposed space for the side extension – it was important that the project caused minimal disruption to the site which was operational 24 hours a day. As the project was taking place around existing services and machinery, there was no margin for error and the design of the extension needed to be precise.
Once the design was approved and the site survey had been conducted, our team lay the groundwork. Specialist flooring needed to be installed in order to safely house the food products, therefore a watertight concrete plinth was constructed.
The cold-rolled steel building was quickly and efficiently erected by our experienced installation team. The steel structure featured goosewing grey composite cladding with a cornflour blue trim to match the existing units.
