Hamilton Steel Buildings supplies and installs steel buildings across Darlington and south Durham, from Faverdale and Morton Palms to Aycliffe Business Park.
We’ve done a fair bit of work in and around the town. For Darlington Council we safely removed an old bridge at Northgate, scaffolding over the river so nothing got into the water, then built new reinforced walls to carry a GRP walkway for the house and business next door. At Darlington Town Hall, working with St Astier, we carried out foundation work and infilled two doorways as part of a concrete restoration project.
Just up the road in Newton Aycliffe we built a 30m x 15m x 5m hot rolled steel commercial building for Firth Brothers Developments, who’d been renting a unit there for years. And at Rushyford, Durham Animal Feeds came back to us to extend a storage building we’d put up for them a few years earlier.
With the A1(M) and A66 on the doorstep, Darlington is about half an hour from our base at Rainton Bridge.

Yes. We’ve carried out the Northgate bridge removal for Darlington Council, foundation and infill work at Darlington Town Hall, and built for clients in nearby Newton Aycliffe and Rushyford. See our case studies.
It depends on size, siting and use. Applications in the town go to Darlington Borough Council, while Newton Aycliffe and Shildon fall under Durham County Council. We’ll tell you where you stand before any drawings are paid for. See our planning permission guide.
Yes. We design machinery stores, feed stores and livestock buildings around the equipment and animals they need to house. Many farm buildings on larger holdings can go up under agricultural permitted development, but it’s worth checking first.
Once the base has been poured and cured, the frame and cladding on a typical building go up in days rather than weeks. Design and manufacture take a few weeks beforehand. Our process page sets out each stage.
