Steel Building Supply and Installation: Middlesbrough

Steel Buildings for Middlesbrough and Teesside

Hamilton Steel Buildings supplies and installs steel buildings across Middlesbrough and the rest of Teesside, for industrial firms, contractors, trade businesses and landowners.

Some of our most demanding work has been on Teesside. A few miles along the river at Teesworks near Redcar, on the old steelworks land, we’ve delivered purpose-built steel buildings for high voltage and low voltage electrical equipment, plus the steel building for an 11,000kV substation and a P&C control room for the SeAH Wind project, working with Electricity North West. Those jobs meant tight programmes, strict safety rules and working on a live industrial site.

On Teesside we also carried out groundworks and civil engineering for the Volvo Truck & Bus Centre, where ground movement was affecting the building. We investigated the ground first, then put in new foundations, a new staircase and ramps that can be adjusted if the ground moves again.

A lot of land round Middlesbrough has a heavy industrial history, so made ground, slag and old foundations are common. We don’t guess at foundations here. Our own groundworks team investigates the site and designs the base around what’s actually there.

Why Teesside Clients Use Hamilton Steel Buildings

We’re a North East family firm, set up in 2017 by Managing Director Chris Hamilton, who has over 20 years in construction. We’re SafeContractor approved and our netting and edge protection is put up by FASET-approved riggers, which matters on industrial sites like Teesworks.

You’ll have one project manager from start to finish, free structural calculations and GA drawings for Building Control, and British cold rolled steel. Our base at Rainton Bridge is under an hour from Middlesbrough. Not sure if you need cold rolled or hot rolled steel for a tall or heavy building? Our guide to cold rolled vs hot rolled steel explains the difference.

Yes. We’ve built HV and LV buildings at Teesworks, the steel building for the SeAH substation and control room, and carried out ground movement repairs for the Volvo Truck & Bus Centre. See our case studies.

Yes, but it needs investigating first. On former industrial land we’ll usually recommend trial pits or a ground investigation, then design pads, a raft or a ring beam to suit. Our guide to steel building foundations explains the options.

Some buildings fall under permitted development and others need an application to Middlesbrough Council (or Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, depending on where the site is). We’ll advise before you commit and can handle the application for you.

Yes. Most of our Teesside work has been on sites that had to keep running. We plan access, deliveries and working areas with you up front, and provide full RAMS and construction phase plans.
