ESSITY UK LTD – Manchester
Reinforced Concrete Floor Slab & Cold-Rolled Steel Building

Hygiene and healthcare manufacturer Essity UK Ltd is one of our regular clients and, on this occasion, needed a new bespoke storage building installed in an existing bund area on their site in Manchester.

The project presented unique challenges due to the existing bund area’s specific constraints. To ensure the new storage building seamlessly integrated into this environment, our team carefully considered factors such as the bund’s dimensions, drainage system, and any potential environmental regulations.
The design team’s solution was to construct a 150mm reinforced concrete floor slab. This slab not only provided a robust foundation for the new structure but also incorporated the existing drainage infrastructure.
By carefully integrating the drainage system into the slab design, we ensured uninterrupted water flow, preventing any potential flooding issues and maintaining the integrity of the bund area. This meticulous attention to detail was crucial for minimising disruption to Essity UK’s operations and ensuring compliance with environmental standards.

The choice of cold-rolled steel for the new storage building was a strategic decision that aligned with the project’s specific requirements. Cold-rolled steel is renowned for its strength, durability, and versatility, making it an ideal material for construction projects of this nature.
Its properties allowed for a structurally sound and long-lasting building that could withstand the demands of Essity UK’s operations. Moreover, the use of cold-rolled steel contributed to a more efficient and cost-effective construction process.
The building’s design was carefully tailored to Essity UK’s specific storage needs, ensuring optimal functionality and efficient utilisation of the available space. This included factors such as storage capacity, accessibility, and compliance with industry regulations.
