Our team were contracted by Cornish Metals LTD to provide a bespoke cold-rolled steel building in one of the biggest mining facilities in the UK.
South Crofty is a historic, high-grade, underground tin mine in the Central Mining District of Cornwall that dates back to the mid-1600s. Since then, the mine has operated sporadically, closing last in 1998 following an extended period of low tin prices. The mine historically produced around 450,000 tonnes of tin between 1700 and 1997.
Cornish Metals plan to re-open the mine. The project has been completely authorised, having underground permission valid until 2071, planning permission to build a new process plant and a permit from the Environment Agency to dewater the mine.
As part of this project, we were tasked with installing a bespoke industrial steel building in the area which would house electrical equipment.
